Uses

Last updated

The stuff I use on the daily. Inspired by uses.tech.

Software

  • Editing code: VSCode - I've tried to switch to Neovim but it didn't stick.
  • Terminal: Mac Terminal - I don't have enough RAM. iTerm at work.
  • Shell: Zsh - No plugin manager, it's all handwritten. Starship prompt.
  • Containers: Orbstack - The amount of things I run at once is silly.
  • Browsing: Safari - Keychain, Handoff and confirmation codes keep me here.
  • Debugging: Firefox - Vastly prefer the dev tools compared to Safari.
  • AI Tooling: Claude Code Max - I love it and hate it at the same time.
  • Listening to music: Spotify - Indie pop, house, pop punk, metalcore.
  • Chatting: Slack - On average I add two emojis per day.

Hardware

  • Laptop: Macbook - Windows is hot garbage and Apple Silicon is amazing.
  • Desktop: Custom build - Ageing gaming and media editing machine.
  • Monitor: 34" Ultrawide - Plus a second vertical monitor.
  • Keyboard: Keychron K3 - I'm eyeing off a split keyboard next.
  • Pointer: Apple Trackpad - I'm a trackpad guy, the gestures are so good.
  • Media Server: Raspberry Pi - Tiny but mighty paired with an Apple TV.

Services

  • Static hosting: Netlify - It's free, batteries included.
  • VPS hosting: Digitial Ocean - Nothing wrong with keeping it old school.
  • Hosting at work: AWS ECS - Containerise the world. Learn all the acronyms.
  • Analytics: Plausible - Self hosted, privacy focused and performant.
  • Domain names: VentraIP & Porkbun - One for `.com.au` and one for the rest.
